2degrees launches commercial services

6 Aug 2009

New Zealand’s third mobile operator, 2degrees has launched commercial services across its GSM and W-CDMA networks, eight years after first receiving its mobile licence. The cellco, formerly called ‘NZ Communications’, and before that ‘Econet Wireless NZ’, was granted a mobile licence in 2001 as part of the Maori spectrum trust. 2degrees has now launched services nationwide with a pre-pay no contract offering, ‘Pay Now.’ Eric Hertz, CEO of 2degrees said: ‘The 2degrees no contract ‘Pay Now’ service means that there’s no more deciphering complicated plans, no commitment to a minimum spend, no need to pay for airtime never used, and no contracts.’
