New Zealand’s second largest broadband operator by subscribers, TelstraClear has revealed plans to invest NZD10 million (USD6.6 million) in the deployment of DOCSIS 3.0 technology across its hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC) networks in Christchurch and Wellington. The upgrade could boost download speeds to over 100Mbps and is expected to be completed by March 2010. The firm also launched a new service across its HFC ‘WarpSpeed’ network in Wellington, offering peak download speeds of up to 25Mbps; the new service is available immediately. TelstraClear CEO Dr Allan Freeth said: ‘This is an investment in the future, a signal to businesses and households that if you are on the TelstraClear WarpSpeed networks you will always have speed to burn.’
