Belgacom first-half revenue better than expected, reiterates full-year guidance

31 Jul 2009

Belgium’s incumbent fixed line and broadband provider, Belgacom, has exceeded expectations, posting a 1.4% decline in revenue for the six months ended 30 June 2009. The operator reported that revenue for the period had risen 1.1% year-on-year to EUR2.99 billion (USD3.99 billion), although it has reiterated its full-year guidance of a 1% sales decline. Belgacom attributed the better-than-expected first-half turnover to an 18% increase in revenue from its International Carrier Services unit, coupled with a reduction in costs. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) in the first half were down 8.9% against the same period a year earlier at EUR932 million.
