Sprint losses deepen

US-based wireless operator Sprint Nextel has reported net losses of USD384 million in the second quarter of 2009, up 12% from USD344 million a year earlier. Revenues for the period fell 10% year-on-year, down to USD8.14 billion from USD9.05 billion. The company saw operating expenses fall from USD9.26 billion in June 2008 to USD8.25 billion a year later, while it also halved capital expenditure, spending USD321 million in the quarter. Sprint revealed that 257,000 net customers left its services in the quarter as it ended June with 48.83 million subscribers.
