Jazztel reports fibre network status

Spanish fixed line and broadband operator Jazz Telecommunications (Jazztel) has said that its fibre-optic network has expanded to stretch for more than 28,000km, with 4,500km of metropolitan area networks (MANs) in the country’s major cities, online news portal Cerra reports. The operator also claimed its network now covers more than one million potential users, with more than 200,000 residences within 100 metres of its fibre infrastructure. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, at end-March 2009 Jazztel had a 4.64% market share of Spain’s broadband sector, putting it in fifth place, behind Telefonica de Espana, ONO, Orange Espana and Ya.com.
