Embratel posts strong second quarter results

28 Jul 2009

Long-distance telephony provider Embratel has posted net income of BRL403.4 million (USD213 million) for the second quarter of 2009, up from BRL122.6 million last year. EBITDA grew from BRL549.7 million to BRL660.3 million on the back of a 9.4% increase in sales to BRL2.6 billion. The telco, which is controlled by Mexico’s Telmex, attributed the good performance to strong demand and a fall in costs associated with debt.
