Greek former monopoly telco OTE has launched its IPTV services in five additional cities, bringing the total number of cities covered to 25. OTE’s ‘conn-x TV’ television-over-ADSL service was soft launched in October 2008 in Athens and the surrounding Attica region, Thessaloniki, Patras, Larissa and Iraklion (on the island of Crete), ahead of a full commercial launch in February 2009 and subsequent expansion to other cities including Alexandroupolis, Piraeus, Xanthi, Drama, Kavala, Komotini and Serres, and the islands of Rhodes, Naxos, Kos, Santorini and Syros. Most recently the service was launched in Veria, Giannitsa, Katerini, Rethymnon and Chania, and OTE plans to reach all major cities in Greece by the end of this year.
