Infrastructure forum submits NBN proposals

23 Jul 2009

A submission to the Senate Select Committee on the National Broadband Network (NBN) by Infrastructure Partnerships Australia, a national infrastructure forum, has called for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to be appointed overseer of the NBN project, ITNews reports. The submission also proposes that the ACCC be given responsibility for the initial setting of access prices for the new superfast broadband infrastructure, arguing that the regulator’s existing responsibilities give it suitable experience for an oversight role. In addition the infrastructure forum has echoed the views of some other industry players and suggested that incumbent Telstra be structurally separated in a bid to reform the fixed line market; it argues that separation will increase competition.
