AEC on the hunt for investors in 3G technology

23 Jul 2009

After failing in its first attempt, Macedonia’s national telecoms regulator, the Agency for Electronic Communication (AEC), has announced a new tender for two 3G operating licences. Presscut reports the watchdog invited bids from up to 20 international companies, as not one of them expressed internet in its previous tender. Licences are being offered at a price of EUR5 million (USD7.1 million) each for a ten-year concession, with the possibility of extending the period. The successful bidder will need to start commercial operations within six months of the award and ensure 50% coverage within the first year.
