3G spectrum limited to three players in Delhi

According to the Economic Times, only three mobile network operators will be able to roll out 3G services in Delhi when the auction process for 3G spectrum is finally held. Comments by Communications minister Andimuthu Raja indicated that, due to a lack of available spectrum in the metro area, only two private operators will be able to offer 3G services; state-owned telco Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) has already been allocated 3G spectrum and has launched commercial services in the circle. Additionally, it has been revealed that only 10MHz of spectrum will be available in West Bengal, and 15MHz in Gujarat , leading industry officials to raise concerns that the bidding for frequencies in these limited circles could escalate significantly.
