Italy’s leading mobile operator by subscribers, Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM), has launched a HSPA+ network in Milan, providing peak download speeds of 28Mbps and upload speeds of up to 5.8Mbps. As reported by CommsUpdate on 18 February, TIM contracted Ericsson for the deployment of the new network, based on Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology, which uses two or more antenna branches to transmit data to a consumer, providing higher data speeds and improving spectrum efficiency in the radio network. TIM is due to launch the service in Rome in October, before expanding the network on a nationwide basis.
