The Jamaican Observer writes that Cable & Wireless Jamaica (LIME) and rival Claro have signed a landmark deal to share base stations across Jamaica, allowing both companies to rapidly expand the reach of their mobile networks and reduce their environmental impact. According to a news release issued by LIME on Saturday, the long-term contract requires each company to provide a matching number of cell towers across the island, which will increase the overall coverage footprint of both providers. ‘Existing and potential customers of both LIME and Claro will be able to enjoy considerably enhanced service with expanded coverage and greater reliability in more locations across the island,’ the news release said. Claro’s CEO, Alejandro Gutierrez, said: ‘This agreement allows us to further enhance the islandwide coverage mobile experience of our 3G services for our customers, at affordable rates.’
