Partner fibre trials too HOT for some

15 Jul 2009

Israeli cableco HOT-Telecommunication Systems is unhappy about proposals by mobile operator Partner Communications to begin trials offering telecoms services over a fibre-optic network with the Israel Electric Corporation (IEC), Globes Online reports. It is believed that Partner and IEC are planning to offer both internet and telephony services over the latter’s fibre network. HOT, however, has written to the Ministry of Communications and the Antitrust Authority regarding the proposed trials; HOT CEO Shlomo Migdal is reported to have said: ‘We (HOT) hope and believe that there is no truth in these reports. However, if they are correct, then HOT wishes to give warning, ahead of time, that before the ministry authorises such a joint venture, it is duty bound to examine in depth the competitive, economic and legal consequences of such a step.
