Chunghwa tests GPON

According to a report by DigiTimes, Taiwan’s incumbent telco Chunghwa Telecom, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and the government-backed Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), has held an event to test the compatibility of gigabit-capable passive optical network (GPON) technology with its networks. The company said that the event was also aimed at helping equipment suppliers develop GPON technologies. Alcatel-Lucent, Motorola, Ericsson, ECI, Adtran, D-Link, Accton Technology, Alpha Networks, Zyxel Communications, Tecom, Delta Networks, Tainet Communication System, Tailyn Communication, Comtrend and Askey Computer took part in the event. Chunghwa is expected to place volume orders for GPON equipment and devices in 2010.
