WiMAX concessions delayed again

14 Jul 2009

Peru’s state agency for promoting private investment ProInversion has once again postponed the award of a WiMAX concession in the 2668MHz-2692MHz spectrum band covering the provinces of Trujillo, Lima, Callao and the department of Lambayeque, according to BNamericas citing government news agency Andina. Both technical and economic bids are due by 6 August 2009. The government had twice previously postponed the date for awarding the concession. Consortium BWDC-Metsanco is the sole pre-qualified company in this process. Venezuela’s Omnivision and local operator Perusat presented bids, but did not meet the terms outlined in the prequalification process.

BWDC-Metsanco is comprised of Virgin Islands company Broadband Wireless Development Corporation and Metsanco, from the Republic of Cyprus. Both companies belong to the Scartel Group, which has wireless telephony operations in Russia under the brand Yotta.
