Vietnamese news source VNBusinessNews is reporting that GTel Mobile, a 60/40 joint venture between state-owned Global Telecom Corporation (GTel) and Russian telecoms group VimpelCom, will enter Vietnam’s mobile market on 20 July under the Beeline banner. The report also states that Beeline’s network is expected to provide coverage to the cities of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. According to CommsUpdate, the Vietnamese government granted permission to GTel, which is currently rolling out a GSM/EDGE network in north and central Vietnam, to cooperate with local state-owned operator Vinaphone to build a 3G network and provide the relevant services in April 2009. Beeline will offer cut-price services aimed at low-income users.
