Vodafone to launch VDSL pilot in Heilbronn

13 Jul 2009

Vodafone Germany has announced plans to build and operate a VDSL pilot network in the city of Heilbronn in cooperation with the country’s incumbent telco Deutsche Telekom (DT). A total of 50,000 households in the city, located in the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, will be provided with broadband internet access at speeds of up to 50Mbps from autumn of this year. The UK-based company is responsible for the construction of the Heilbronn network, while in Wuerzburg, where Vodafone is conducting another pilot VDSL project alongside DT, the incumbent has assumed responsibility for network rollout. Vodafone Germany also stated that plans to expand its VDSL network to other German cities has been put on hold as it has been unable to reach an agreement with DT over access to local network facilities.
