CMT freezes monthly fixed voice line charge

13 Jul 2009

Spain’s telecoms regulator, the Telecommunications Market Commission (CMT), has announced that the monthly subscription fee charged to retail customers by incumbent Telefonica de Espana for fixed voice lines will remain the same in 2010. Having been responsible for setting the rate that Telefonica can charge since 2006, the most recent change was made in 2008 when the regulator set it at EUR13.97 (USD19.48); that same year the CMT also liberalised the connection fee for fixed voice lines, setting it at EUR59.5. The regulator has justified it decision not to alter the fee by claiming that the charge is above the European average.
