Tatung raises investment plans; launches WiMAX in Kaohsiung

Taiwanese WiMAX operator Tatung InfoComm has announced plans to invest TWD10 billion (USD303 million) in the development of its WiMAX networks in Kaohsiung and Penghu over the next five years, DigiTimes reports. The announcement was made by Chairman Lin Kuo Wen-yen at a ceremony held to launch WiMAX services in the southern city of Kaohsiung. The company has built 200 base stations in the city, covering 70% of the local population. Tatung, which first launched WiMAX on 27 April on the Penghu islands, hopes to have attracted 13,000 customers to the service by the end of the year.
