Lugo launches Copaco VoIP service

8 Jul 2009

Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo officially launched Copaco’s new voice over internet protocol (VoIP) service at the country’s 2009 ‘Expo fair’, Paraguayan daily La Nacion reports. The incumbent telco first announced that it would launch a VoIP service over six months ago and is the only company in Paraguay with the legal right to provide voice services over the internet. As reported by CommsUpdate on 18 March 2009 the market was partly liberalised by industry regulator Conatel in the first quarter of 2009, although Copaco maintained its monopoly over VoIP services.
