Rwandatel has announced that at 30 June 2009 it claimed 420,000 subscribers, failing to meet its target for that date of 600,000. Despite the shortfall, the operator’s management say that they are optimistic that the goal of achieving 1.2 million customers by the end of the year can still be achieved. ‘When we introduced ourselves again on the market, we came out with really aggressive marketing. These campaigns are just beginning to take hold and to translate into actual subscriptions,’ stated CEO Patrick Kariningufu. The company launched GSM services in December 2008 and competes with MTN Rwanda.
