Deutsche Telekom mulling asset swap option for T-Mobile UK?

3 Jul 2009

As the rumour mill continues to turn with regard to the possible sale of Deutsche Telekom’s (DT’s) UK unit, T-Mobile UK, the Financial Times is claiming that the German giant is looking for an asset swap, rather than a straight sale. According to the financial news source the preferred option for DT would be to swap the UK cellco for assets in another country, with central or eastern Europe both mooted as possible target regions. Additionally, while it is understood that DT will still consider the options of either selling T-Mobile UK outright or merging it with another UK mobile operator, it has reportedly ruled out the option of a tie-up with Hutchison 3G UK.
