2 Jul 2009

US rural telcos CenturyTel and EMBARQ have announced that they have completed a merger of operations. The combined company will operate under the ‘CenturyLink’ banner. Based on results as of 31 March 2009 the new company will serve more than 2.1 million broadband customers and approximately 7.5 million fixed voice telephony accesses in predominantly rural areas across 33 states. While the company’s corporate identity will immediately change to CenturyLink, operations will continue under the CenturyTel and EMBARQ brand names until a full brand conversion later this year. ‘The completion of this merger is a significant event for our customers, communities, investors and employees,’ said Glen F. Post III, CEO of the CenturyTel, ‘CenturyLink has the advanced networks, the people and the financial stability to deliver the reliable and innovative services that our customers want and need.’
