Lightspeed quick to take advantage of faster DSL

1 Jul 2009

Bahraini telco Lightspeed Communications, a subsidiary of France Telecom-controlled Orange Jordan, has launched new faster residential ADSL internet packages, with downstream speed limits of 4Mbps, 8Mbps and 10Mbps. The move follows incumbent PSTN operator Batelco belatedly removing a cap on ADSL speeds in mid-June to make 10Mbps services available to end users; consumer DSL access was previously limited to 2Mbps. All of Lightspeed’s new monthly consumer packages include ten hours of free fixed line voice calls and two hours of free mobile calls, whilst its business customers enjoy unlimited downloads, free unlimited local landline calls and four hours of free mobile calls per month. All existing Lightspeed broadband customers will be upgraded to faster speeds without cost.
