HITS Telecom, a Kuwait-listed international mobile operator, has revealed plans to launch a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service in France. According to company chairman Sultan Bahabri, HITS, which launched MVNO services over Vodafone’s network in Spain in November 2008, plans to roll out the business model to other major European markets.
HITS holds GSM licences in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Tanzania and Yemen, and is also mulling plans to expand its reach to Peru, Brazil, India and China. On 29 June CommsUpdate reported that Peru’s state agency for promoting private investment ProInversion had pre-qualified two companies – HITS Telecom and local telco Americatel – to compete in a tender for 25MHz of spectrum in the 1900MHz band. ProInversion expects the winner to commit to investing USD150 million over 20 years.
