Telecoms sector revenues up 16%

According to data published by the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the country’s telecommunications sector generated USD467 million in the first five months of 2009, reflecting a 15.6% increase compared to the same period a year earlier. Mobile revenues reached USD344 million in the same timeframe, a rise of 19.8% from the USD287 million recorded in the first five months of 2008. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Azerbaijan was home to just over six million mobile subscribers, 70,000 broadband customers and around 1.5 million fixed lines at the end of 2008.
