According to the Estado de S. Paulo newspaper in Brazil, Telefonica Brazil’s Telesp operation has been ordered to suspend sales of Speedy broadband packages, effective 22 June. The telecoms regulator Anatel says the Spanish-owned group may resume sales once it has demonstrated it has taken steps to minimise disruptions to the service. The watchdog’s move is in response to a growing tide of user complaints over interruptions to the service. ‘I think this is a problem that needs to be looked at from the planning end. This [situation] looks to me, at least with the information that I have, like it’s a system overload,’ communications minister Helio Costa was quoted as saying by press agency Agencia Estado.
