22 Jun 2009

Swedish telecoms equipment and services provider Ericsson has been chosen by Telefonica O2 Germany to provide the German telecoms operator with an IMS core system and IMS-based voice-over-IP (VoIP) applications server, as it migrates its existing fixed and mobile systems into a converged IP-based next generation network (NGN). Carsten Ahrens, president of Ericsson Germany, said: ‘We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with Telefonica O2 Germany by supplying and integrating the centerpiece of their IP network transformation. IMS will drive the evolution and convergence of their telephony service and provide the foundation for delivery of their other real-time multimedia applications.’ The contract includes the deployment of hardware as well as software systems integration services.
