Telkom to launch IPTV service in October

Indonesia’s dominant telecoms operator PT Telkom intends to begin testing IPTV services next month, in preparation for a full-blown commercial launch in October or November, The Jakarta Globe quotes Telkom’s chief executive Rinaldi Firmansyah, as saying. The operator has secured loans of USD265 million with two state-owned banks to fund a number of CAPEX projects this year, including the expansion of its broadband internet service and the development of IPTV services. The telco aims to sign up a million IPTV subscribers by the beginning of 2009. Telkom has a CAPEX budget target of USD2.1 billion for the current year, of which 70% is being sourced internally, with the remainder coming from bank loans.
