Deutsche Telekom-backed T-Mobile Macedonia, the leading operator by subscribers in Macedonia, has awarded Ericsson of Sweden a four-year contract to be its sole supplier of W-CDMA/HSPA technology. Under the deal, Ericsson will supply a complete W-CDMA/HSPA network, including radio access network (RAN) and modernisation of the existing packet-core network. The cellco hopes the upgrade will provide the necessary network capacity and functionality needed to handle anticipated future growth of mobile broadband services in a cost-effective manner. Commenting on the award, Michael Lawrence, CEO of T-Mobile Macedonia, said: ‘Ericsson’s HSPA solution will enable us to launch mobile broadband services quickly and with high quality and performance. Partnering with Ericsson means we can offer our customers a superior communications experience and strengthen T-Mobile Macedonia’s position as a leading 3G network operator and service provider.’
