Panama’s second largest mobile operator by subscribers, Telefonica Moviles Panama (Movistar), has launched a range of fixed-wireless telephony services, La Estrella is reporting. Initially the service, marketed under the ‘Time Movistar’ banner, is only available in Panama City, but Movistar expects to extend coverage to Columbus by the end of June. By the end of 2009 Movistar expects to have further expanded the service nationwide, and hopes to have signed up 20,000 subscribers. Three different ‘Time Movistar’ packages are available, with the lowest level, Standard, offering 550 free minutes of local calls for PAB14.96 (USD15.22) per month. Home Plus, meanwhile, costs PAB19.96 for 800 free local call minutes, and Home Unlimited offers unlimited local calls for PAB29.96 a month. When signing up customers will have a choice of two telephone terminals, the Avvio-852P or the Axxestel PG430.
