11 Jun 2009

UPC Austria has launched high speed broadband services in Vienna with download speeds of up to 100Mbps. The company’s new fibre-based network uses DOCSIS 3.0 technology and is the first stage of the company’s EUR100 million (USD140.5 million) next generation network (NGN) investment plans. Thomas Hintze, CEO of UPC Austria, said, ‘We are continually investing in the expansion of our fibre-optic infrastructure, achieving higher speeds, reliable transfers and better service for our customers, thus meeting the increasing demand for broadband access.’ Access to the NGN is currently available to one third of all Viennese households and will be available to all households by the end of August, with expansion to other regions of Austria scheduled for the second half of the year.
