IZZI does it with DOCSIS 3.0

Latvian broadband operator IZZI has announced that it has been granted funding from the European Regional Development Fund which it will use to introduce DOCSIS 3.0 technology. IZZI claims that it will be the first in Latvia to introduce DOCSIS 3.0, and it expects to increase the speeds on offer to its customers to up to 100Mbps as a result of the upgrade. As part of its plans for the upgrade project IZZI has also said it plans to acquire equipment including switchboards, routers, optic nodes and optic transmitters. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, IZZI was Latvia’s third largest broadband operator by subscribers at end-March 2009, claiming a 5.18% market share with an estimated 22,000 customers, well behind market leader Lattelecom Group, which had 186,000 high speed internet subscribers, representing a 43.76% share.
