Argentine telecoms regulator Secretaria de Comunicaciones (SeCom) is reportedly planning to award spectrum to operate third generation mobile services, writes BNamericas, citing local newspaper El Cronista. According to the paper, a source at the watchdog said SeCom is preparing the bidding conditions for the tender, which could be launched this year. The regulator is rumoured to be planning to award 90MHz of spectrum in the 1710MHz-1755MHz and 2110MHz-2155MHz frequency bands. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, three mobile operators have already launched 3G services in a number of cities in Argentina. Telecom Personal was first to launch its 3G network in May 2007, followed two months later by Movistar, while Claro Argentina introduced its service in November 2007.
