PT chooses Alcatel-Lucent to deploy FTTH

Alcatel-Lucent has announced that it has been selected by Portugal Telecom to deploy the company’s fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network. The next generation network (NGN) will be based on Alcatel-Lucent’s gigabit passive optical network (GPON) technology providing customers with access to high speed broadband and high definition television (HDTV). Zeinal Bava, CEO of Portugal Telecom, said, ‘Portugal Telecom has always been committed to innovation to the market and its clients. The new optical fibre network will be the network for the next 100 years. With Alcatel Lucent’s GPON platform, we can offer an unmatched HDTV experience and the fastest internet download and upload speeds.’
