CenterNet launches network

3 Jun 2009

On 30 May Polish wireless licensee CenterNet launched its wireless network, in accordance with the terms of its licence. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database CenterNet won the tender for GSM spectrum in the 1710MHz-1730MHz and 1805MHz-1825MHz ranges in early October 2007, but opted to take only those in the lower range for a fee of PLN128 million (USD48 million). CenterNet aims to sign up 200,000 customers within a year of launch, and 2.5 million within five. It is reported to have secured a domestic roaming agreement with Orange Poland, while it invests in building its own infrastructure. The company has budgeted for investment of between PLN700 million and PLN1 billion (USD263 million to USD375 million). Under the terms of its licence CenterNet is required to have coverage of 30% of the population within six months of launch.

CenterNet is 100% owned by the Polish private equity fund NFI Midas Investment Fund, itself 70.97% owned by Roman Karkosik.
