TeliaSonera International Carrier has expanded its international IP backbone by setting up a point of presence (PoP) in Bucharest, Romania. ‘Further expansion into the Balkans and Eurasia will be strategically important if we are to fulfil our ambition and become one of the three largest global IP carriers,’ said Malin Frenning, head of the carrier unit. Last year the IP operator opened a PoP in Sofia, Bulgaria, whilst globally it owns and operates more than 43,000km of fibre covering over 100 PoPs in 35 countries across Europe, the US and Asia.
