AzTelekom connects telecom centres to TAE

1 Jun 2009

Azeri state-owned telco AzTelekom will soon finish connecting all of its telecoms centres to the Trans-Asia-Europe (TAE) fibre-optic cable network, reports Azerbaijan Business Center. ‘Taking into account that AzTelekom’s list contains 56 telecom centres, it is possible to say with assurance that soon Aztelekom will fully complete connection of all its centres to the TAE line,’ the company’s first deputy director Zakhir Veliyev announced. Construction of the Azerbaijani segment of TAE cable began in December 1999 and was completed in 2001. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, AzTelekom had around one million fixed lines in service at the end of 2008.
