Telia installs first LTE base station

26 May 2009

Sweden’s TeliaSonera has installed the first base station in its new mobile network using Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology, under a rollout contract awarded to Ericsson in January. The base station is located in Stockholm, and TeliaSonera plans to cover the city with LTE enabled sites operating in the 2.6GHz band by the end of the current quarter. The operator aims to launch the new network commercially next year, to provide data transfer rates around ten times faster than existing mobile broadband networks.
