Telenor announces LTE trials for Oslo this summer

21 May 2009

Norwegian telco Telenor is preparing to test Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in a real world environment in Oslo this summer, Unstrung reports. The operator will test LTE radio access and Evolved Packet Core (EPC) equipment provided by Chinese vendor Huawei Technologies in the capital. Telenor has noted, however, that Huawei’s equipment has only been selected for the field trial, and said it is seeking separate quotes for LTE equipment to cover all of its areas of operation in the Nordic region. The deal is Huawei’s second relating to LTE services in Norway this year; according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database the vendor inked a deal with TeliaSonera in January to provide a commercial LTE network, also in Oslo, expected to launch in 2010.
