Huawei seals Italian WiMAX contract

Italian broadband access provider Retelit has awarded Huawei a contract to deploy its commercial WiMAX 802.16e network across 13 regions in northern and central Italy. Under the agreement Huawei will provide end-to-end WiMAX solutions including base stations, access service network gateways, hybrid TDM-IP microwave equipment and network management systems. Huawei has delivered the first batches of WiMAX terminals, which are already in use in the areas where the network has been activated. ‘Retelit’s development plans are stringent, we are working hard in order to cover all the regions in the north and central parts of Italy,’ said Gilberto Di Pietro, General Manager of Retelit, ‘As to Huawei, thanks to its experience and state of the art WiMAX mobile technology, we can deliver the network to serve our customers with outstanding wireless broadband access service.’
