TELICPHIL selects ECI Telecom for nationwide DWDM expansion

19 May 2009

Next generation network (NGN) infrastructure provider ECI Telecom today announced that it has been chosen as the sole supplier by the Telecoms Infrastructure Corporation of the Philippines (TELICPHIL), a consortium of seven franchised telecom operators, to expand the country’s National Digital Transmission Network (NDTN). The joint venture project was set up by the owners to lease bandwidth and deliver communication services across the Philippines. Under the deal signed with ECI, the vendor will supply its XDM Multi-Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP), extending the NDTN to provide for a 2 × 10Gbps DWDM backbone network capable of offering greater bandwidth capacity for new, revenue generating data and international-calling services, while enabling future migration to a NGN.

TELICPHIL was formed to act as maintenance contractor of the NDTN and is the Philippines’ second privately owned telecommunication’s backbone. It is a joint project of seven enfranchised telecom companies led by BayanTel, which has majority stake of more than 83% in the asset. Other co-owning members are Smart, Globe, Extelcom, Digitel, ETPI and PT&T. The NDTN was launched in 1999.
