Brazilian telco Telemar Norte Leste (Oi) has revealed plans to invest BRL1 billion (USD480 million) to expand its telecoms infrastructure in the south of the country, local paper Jornal do Commercio reports. Under the plan Oi will roll out 770 mobile base transceiver stations (BTSs) in the southern states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Parana, in the process increasing mobile coverage in these areas by 35%. Oi launched operations in the three states on 17 May, following its acquisition of fellow operator Brasil Telecom (BrT), which was completed in January this year.
