DoCoMo picks Motorola for LBS deployment

19 May 2009

Japan’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, NTT DoCoMo, has selected Motorola to deploy its Mobile Advanced Location System (MALS) to power the cellco’s new location based services (LBS). The Motorola-supplied platform will enable DoCoMo to deliver improved LBS to its customers and enhance its competitive position in the international roaming market. Motorola says its MALS product is compliant with the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Secure User Plane Location (SUPL) 1.0 standard, allowing faster and more accurate detection of the position of DoCoMo’s users, even when using the BTSs of overseas carriers while roaming.
