Rumour: few lucky Telus, Bell users could have HSPA handsets by September

18 May 2009

Canadian mobile operators Telus and Bell Mobility could be ready to soft launch HSPA-based services in a few selected markets in September to test their systems ahead of planned launches by February 2010, a Telus engineer informed boygeniusreport.com. Telus and fellow CDMA-based operator Bell are aiming to roll out commercial HSPA handset services under a network sharing agreement by the first quarter of next year – ideally by February, when the country hosts the Winter Olympics (which Bell is sponsoring). According to the insider quote, Vancouver-based Telus’s initial rollout will focus on southern British Columbia.
