Dutch cableco UPC Nederland has increased its digital coverage by adding the towns of Maasdriel, Neerrijnen, West Maas and Waal and Zaltbommel, Broadband TV News reports. However, as the local networks in those areas are not two-way enabled, the digital TV service is restricted to the UPC Digitale TV Riant bouquet, it said.
In a separate development, UPC Nederland says it plans to shut down its MVNO service upcmobile, effective 30 June. The operator will terminate its pre-paid business, which serves about 40,000 customers. UPC has been selling pay-as-you-go pre-paid services under the upcmobile banner for several years, piggybacking on the former Orange Nederland network. At its zenith, the UPC service counted more than 100,000 users, but with the Orange network now owned by T-Mobile, the company is passing all its pre-paid users to the network operator from 1 July.
