Swiss Fibre to deploy dark fibre network

8 May 2009

Swiss fibre cable network operator Swiss Fibre Communications will start construction of a dark fibre network from north to south Switzerland in July of this year, writes TelecomPaper. The cable will connect Basel with Chiasso, via other key cities, using the shortest possible route through the Gotthard-tunnel. Swiss Fibre will also construct a redundant path to provide its customers with the option of geographical diversity and security. As a key part of the network construction, Swiss Fibre has secured the use of road side ducts through an exclusive long term contract with the Swiss Federal Roads Office. Marketing of the network has just started.
