7 May 2009

US-owned cable group Liberty Global Inc has agreed to sell its Slovenian subsidiary UPC Telemach to private equity fund Mid Europa Partners for an undisclosed fee, reports Broadband TV News. The fund earlier reportedly set aside between EUR130 million-EUR150 million (USD173 million-USD200 million) for the 100% share purchase. The deal remains subject to regulatory approval. UPC Telemach is Slovenia’s largest cable TV provider, and according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database it had 57,200 cable modem broadband internet access customers and around 20,000 voice telephony users at the end of March 2009. Mid Europa Partners also owns a stake in Serbia’s pay-TV market leader, Serbia Broadband.
