Portuguese telco Sonaecom has announced net profits of EUR200,000 (USD266,000) for the three months ended 31 March 2009, a EUR5.7 million rise on the same period a year earlier when the company posted a EUR5.5 million net loss. Revenue for the quarter was EUR240.9 million, a 1.3% year-on-year rise. EBITDA rose 33.2% to EUR45.4 million while operating costs fell from EUR201.1 million at the end of March 2008 to EUR189.9 million a year later. The company saw its mobile services, including subsidiary Optimus, add 292,900 customers to its service in the first quarter, up to a total of 3.22 million. The company’s wireline customer base fell to 554,486, a 24.9% year-on-year drop.
