KDG selects NDS to provide digital TV solution

1 May 2009

German cable operator Kabel Deutschland (KDG) has partnered UK-based NDS to provide an end-to-end solution to enhance its digital TV platform. The solution will support both standard and high definition digital TV services as well as enabling future enhancements to help KDG remain competitive in the crowded German broadband and cable market. Lorenz Glatz, CTO of KDG, said: ‘For the development of our digital TV operations and the introduction of new entertainment services, we selected a technology provider that delivers an advanced end-to-end solution, including future-looking enabling technologies. NDS’ technology portfolio and expertise fulfils our long list of requirements.’ Other German operators Kabel BW, Arcor, Telecolubus/Primacom and Premiere have already adopted NDS’ technology.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, KDG operates cable networks in 13 out of 16 federal states, passing 16 million households and connecting to nine million. Implementation of technologies will begin in the coming weeks, with no impact on delivery of services to the cableco’s subscribers.
